Work began at 8:30 AM, with the northern boundary of T-46 (see EC VI) being extended to the east. This was done using a laser elvel. Based on this newly established line, the corners of T-48 were triangulated.
Once the corners of the trench were established, the earea in and around the future borders of teh trench continued to be cleared. Small trees and branches were chopped down using machetes and the ground was raked in order to remove leaves, loose brush, and vines. Debris was deposited in a pre-existing dirt dump located approximately 10 meters to the north of the trench. Once leaves were removed, the remaining grass and roots were clipped to better reveal the surface. Once this was accomplished, the boundaries of the trench were strung. The location of T-48 on the master grid system is as follows:
- NW corner: 52S/194E
- NE corner: 52S/197E
- SE corner: 55S/196.02E
- SW corner: 55S/194E
Locus 1 was declared open throughout the entirety of the trench. Opening photos and elevations were taken. A datum point was established at ---- on the master grid system.
- NW corner: 35.2cm b.d. (27.84m A.E.)
- NE corner: 44.5cm b.d. (27.745m A.E.)
- Center: 42.2cm b.d. (27.77m A.E.)
- SE corner: 52.8cm b.d. (27.66m A.E.)
- SW corner: 45cm b.d. (27.74m A.E.)
Although the trench has been opened, ground was not yet broken. Instead, material was removed from the interior of T-23 and the area surrounding it. Grass was also clipped along the edge of T-23.

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.
The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
