TUESDAY, JUNE 16
A.M.
CA 49 and CA 48 were laid by triangulating off the perpendicular line established yesterday. The trench (which lies 2 m. south of CA 48) measures 3 meters north-south and 8 m. east-west, or E77-84, S18-20.
A datum point was established in the northeast corner of the trench in the trunk of a large tree that occupies the corner of the trench. The datum point is 51 cm above the surface of the ground.
A top soil cut (Locus 1) was begun at the west end of the trench. The top soil was heavily matted with roots and contained numerous small stones (5-10 cm). Tile and ceramic quantities will be recorded in the afternoon.
P.M.
Work continued removing the top soil, moving eastward. The cut was completed thru meter E81, S18-20. Material recovery was limited. 15 fragments of extremely worn tile and terracotta were recovered, along with 1 coarseware handle fragment and a portion of antler, which exhibited no tool marks.

Editorial Note | Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods. The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets. |
