Daily Log

July 1, 1972

Three men began cleaning the topsoil in T-19 H-I/52-49 down to approximately 50 cm below topsoil.  The brown soil contains many large pieces of light brick (wall plaster?), terracotta fragments (pan tiles, cover tiles, pithoi) and pottery sherds.  A reddish-range, fine-grained ware is most prevalent.

  • 5 cassetti of tiles discarded.
  • 1 cassette of pottery

Toward the end of the morning, the pinkish stratum ended and the workers began uncovering a stone foundation of a wall running N-S and perpendicular to the rocks in the plan ( ).  This foundation may connect with the foundation in B-D/48-49.
