Daily Log

July 4, 1990

The l0 cm. cut begun this morning in meters G/14-15 was extended south into meters G/12-13, extending the depth of these meters to ca. 105-110 cm. This cut was also extended east into the western quarter of meters H/12-15 in order to further define the stratigraphy to the west of the pit formation in meters H-I/12-13 and the extent and nature of the burn area and second possible pit formation (see: JBI p 237 ) in meters I-J/14-15. The western quarter of meters H/12-15 was also taken down to a depth of ca. 105-110 cm. The soil in the western quarter of meters H/12-13 consisted entirely of a clean layer of galestra which contained no material. The soil in the eastern

quarter of H/15, however, consisted of a combination of galestra and some dark brown soil. The dark brown soil, which was limited to the eastern-most edge of the excavated portion of meter H/15, contained a light concentration of carbon and a few burned impasto sherds. This dark brown soil may represent the western boundary of the burn area and possible pit tentatively identified in meters I-J/14-15. Further clearing of the area, however, will be necessary to determine the exact point of interface between the galestra and dark brown soil with certainty.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
