The trench was taken down to a level where bedrock was cropping up. It appeared that patches of bedrock covered the whole trench except at the N corner, grid A1-4. The wall was found to be built directly on bedrock. Pieces of horserace frieze and lateral sima were found in the same are as before around grid D8. 11 boxes of tiles were dumped. Some five pottery (Greek import?)

with remains of paint was found in the narrow strip between the wall and he W edge of the trench, at the level of the wall in the fill over the bedrock (see plan of the trench).
