June 23, 2005

Excavation continued in locus 2 .  The trench was lowered approximately 5 cm.  Approximately 1/3 of a latte box of mixed bone fragments and pottery sherds was found.  Approximately two bowls (24 cm. in diameter, 7 cm. in depth) of terracotta fragments were found.  Since larger terracotta fragments are coming up and the depth of the trench equals the start of the terracotta fall appearing in the walls of adjoining trenchs locus 3 was established with the following starting depths:

  • NW corner (176.8-E/49.3-S) = 27.71 m. above absolute elevation
  • SW corner (176.3-E/52-S) = 27.67 m. above absolute elevation
  • SE corner (180-E/52.2-S) = 27.71 m. above absolute elevation
  • NE corner (180-E/49.3-S) = 27.76 m. above absolute elevation

Photos were taken for the opening of the new locus, but no excavation was done, instead the west scarp of the trench was cleaned.

Additional Depth Measurements for Locus 3:

  • 177-E/52-S = 27.67 m. above absolute elevation (estimated)
  • 177-E/52.1-S = 27 m. above absolute elevation (estimated)

3.5 Bowls (24 cm. in diameter, 7 cm. in depth) of terracotta fragments were recovered and 0.5 latte box of mixed bone fragments and pottery sherds was found.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
