June 18, 1969

A 7th layer was cleared form the same SE section to a depth of ca 0.85 m. The central rock area produced markedly larger fragments, predominantly tile, whereas the E end ot the section began to produce very small fragments fo pottery. Found in excavation of the rocky area were a large hemispherical rock, ca. 0.33 m in diameter with a small (0.15 m wide, 0.05 m deep) indentation inside, and a strangely shaped terracotta objext, perhaps part of a statue (Y-14). At the end of the rocky area several pieces of bery fine pottery were collected.

An 8th layer was cleared to ca 0.93 m, producing:

3  cornice fragment with stud (T-15)

4 fragment , possibly of a frieze (T-12)

5 cornice fragment (V-15)

6 cornice fragment (V-15)

7 fragment of banquet frieze (S-14)

8 fragment of frieze with guilloche (V-14)

9 cornice fragment with stud (V-13)

10 cornice fragment, very worn (V-12)

11 fragment of unidentified frieze (W-12)

12 cornice fragment (W-12)

13 cornice fragment (X-12)

14 cornice fragment (X-12)

Several small pieces of bronze. 5 boxes of tiles and pottery were collected, and the rocky area continued as above.

In the 9th layer, which was extended to ca. 1.0m depth, tha same rocky area continued with wome very large rocks interspersed with both large and small tile fragments. There was a noticable increase in the number of tiles, with 11 boxes collected from this layer. Finds consisted of:

4 fragment guilloche and dogs? sima? (X-12)

5. rounded fragment, possibly arm of a statue (V-14)

6 raking sima fragment with guilloche and dog (W-12)

A large oval rock with a rectangular channel across one side was found in the middle of teh rocky area. [NW]
