Made a new cut in meter H/45 moving west through dark brown soil with frequent inclusions of carbon at a depth of 110 cm.  This cut was taken up to the baulk in H/42.  From the cross section through the stone pack by this cut, it is clear that these stones lay on top of the burn layer of darker brown soil.  The reddish burn soil in meters H-I/43-42, noted previously, also appears to rest on top of this dark brown soil with carbon inclusions which begins at a depth of approximately 95-100 cm b.s.  Almost 1 full cassetta of small tile fragments and 1 full latte of pottery and bone were removed from this area.  Finds from this area include an unusual fragment of terracotta with preserved grooves in it (#23), a piece of heavily vitrified material (#22), the head of a bronze pin (#28 [?]), and numerous fragments of pottery.  Also discovered another riverstone -- possible sling stone -- in H/44-45 at a depth of 100-110 cm.  Two fragments of pithos rim were also removed.

Began a new cut in H-I/48-45, taking the area down to approximately 120 cm.  The soil was dark brown with frequent inclusions of carbon.  In meter H-I/46 it was noted that an especially heavy concentration of carbon

was appearing at a depth of 115-120 cm.  1/2 of a cassetta of tile and plaster and 2 full latte boxes of pottery.  A few fragments of pithos were also excavated.  Finds from this area include a large fragment of terracotta (#7), a piece of possibly worked bone (#32), a stone with a possible bore hole (#33), and several fragments of pottery.  Another river stone -- possible sling stone -- was discovered in I/46 at 110-120 cm.
