P.M.

Cut begun and completed to about 100 cm in meters H/44-45, in order to get a cross-section of that stone concentration.  Soil is now a darker brown with large charcoal inclusions.  Obtained 1/4 cassetta of small tile, 3/4 latte box of small pottery sherds and bone (some larger pieces), and 1/2 dozen small flakes of bronze.  Also found 2 pieces of slag, finds #2 & 3.

Began cut in meters H-I/48-47 with picks, taking it down to an approximate depth of 110 cm.  Soil remained medium-brown/olive, but the reddish burn layer with plaster inclusions began to appear in the bottom of the cut.  Recovered about 1/10 cassetta of small pieces of tile and 1/2 latte box of pottery and bone.  Among the pottery were find #1, a fragment of Italo-Coninthian creamware, #4, 2 sherds of a possibly coil-made vessel with rim and handle fragments, #5, a small piece of banded impasto, and #6, a piece of creamware, possibly Italo-Corinthian.

taken in afternoon.
