DAILY LOG ENTRY FOR FRIDAY, 17 JULY 2009

MORNING:

Picked in the south half of Locus 11 , except for the SE corner, which is still the lowest part of the trench. Finds included a small amount of terracotta & ceramic w/ some small & medium (fist-sized) rocks scattered through the trench. A second pick pass in the center of the southern half was completed in order to level the floor of the trench. Finds continued to consist of small fragments of terracotta & ceramic. A small piece of plastic tarp was recovered near the middle of the E baulk wall, where some leaves are still present, which indicates that some backfill dirt is still on the floor of the trench, in the area along the E baulk. Some small (less than pea-sized) pieces of charcoal were also recovered. After that pick pass, the floor of the trench was mostly level and another pick pass was made in the northern half of trench. There were some more finds there and the fragments of terracotta were larger than in the southern half of the trench. Finds from Locus 7 continued to remain sparse. Another pick pass was made in the central area of the trench. Finds remained consistent w/ other

pickpasses & also included one sherd of black slip pottery and another of ridged pottery (Finds 1 & 2). Another pickpass was made in the NE corner of the trench & extending down about \xbd meter. As usual w/ the northern half of the trench larger chunks of terracotta were recovered.
