Daily Log

July 25, 1972

Work continued in Trenches 18 and 19, the north extensions.

T-18 L-M/28-30:

The bucchero layer was lifted in the morning, producing approximately 2 cassetti of bucchero fragments.  No complete vessels were evident: the fragments were scattered and the vases did not appear to be dropped whole.  A few bones and two pieces of iron were found among the pottery fragments - also many pieces of an impasto vessel, and a few terracotta tiles.

  • 1/2 cassette of tiles discarded

For finds, see JN III, p. 175.

T-19 J-M/34-35:

In the morning, the men continued to clean above the tile fall in J-L/34-35 and above the pithos.  The trenchw as extended slightly to the north, removing the surface rocks, to make it even with the north wall of grids M/31-33.  This area revealed more of the pithos.  In the afternoon, the workmen began to extend this trench to the east by 1/2 meter (J-M/36).

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
