Loose surface rocks were removed, no surface terracotta was found. Picking began in the eastern most meter. Locus 1 is very dark brown topsoil rich with organics such as leaves, twigs, and roots. Its Munsell designation is 5 YR 3/1 very dark gray.
Small rocks are present in locus 1 . Pottery is also present. Terracotta has also been found in this initial pick pass. The northern part of this meter picked is particularly full of small rocks 5 cm or less. A second pick pass was done of the same eastern most meter. The soil continues to be dark brown and organic rich. The rock in the south eastern meter appears to be significantly larger than what was visible on the surface.
The remainder of the second pick pass was sorted and cleared from the trench. A fragment of medieval pottery preserving a rim was found in the southern half (special find #1). Points and elevations were taken. The third pick pass was done in the central meter. This was sorted and cleared. Terracotta and pottery remains present, along with organics such as roots, leaves, and twigs.
