Purpose

The purpose for a further T-26, 1982 extension to the west, in grids R-W/62-64, is two-fold.  First, we are to assist excavation already underway in the area (as recorded and directed by Mark Tobey in Books V-VII) in uncovering the westward extent of the "Columned Building" discovered by Tobey earlier this year.  We will be searching for a continuation of the "mortar" floor and columned bases noted by Tobey as characterizing the structure.

Secondly, we are searching for any evidence to aid us in understanding the roofing system and decoration adorning the structure; In particular, the lateral and raking sima decorative elements.

For a more extensive, and earlier, report of excavations of the "Columned Building," plus an explanation of the grid system, please see Mark Tobey, Books V-VII.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
