The baulk walls were evened in the CA-81 trench and it was decided that a second extension would be opened directly to the south of the current CA-81 extension. This extension will be approximately 2 x 2 meters and the coordinates are: 61 E, 41 S; 63 E, 41 S; 63 E, 43 S; 61 E, 43 S. The second extension was cleared and strung off. This extension will

also be declared Locus 5 across the entire 2 x 2 m area. The soil is the same as Locus 1 , with a large amount of humus.

Locus 5 Trench Layout

There is also a large stump in the northeast corner

that will eventually be taken out in sections. The tree in the center of the second extension will also be cut down and removed. Opening photos and aerial photographs were taken, as well as opening elevations.

Locus 5 Opening Elevations:

NW: 83 cm BD / 27.14 m AE

62.20 E, 41.20 S: 79 cm BD / 27.18 m AE

62.80 E, 41.90 S: 84 cm BD / 27.13 m AE

SE: 88 cm BD / 27.09 m AE

SW: 101 cm BD / 26.96 m AE

PM

Pickpasses began along the north of the second extension moving west to east. Since this locus is topsoil, no buckets will be sieved.

Special Find #3

Iron

Locus 5

61.61 E / 42.12 S

88 cm BD / 27.09 m AE

Special Find #4

Special Find #5

Slag

Locus 5

61.39 E / 42.48 S

107 cm BD / 26.90 m AE

Because there is a stump in the northeast corner, end of day elevations will be taken both northwest of the stump at 62.20 E, 41.90 S. Loose dirt was picked up and roots were clipped. End of day elevations were taken.

End of Day Elevations:

NW: 82 cm BD /

62.20 E, 41.20 S: 86 cm BD /

62.80 E, 41.90 S: 78 cm BD /
