Daily Logs

30 th July, 2013

Since the trenches were too wet to excavate in, work was focused on evening the baulk walls.

Special Find #2

Baulk Wall

132 cm BD / 26.65 m AE

The second extension was scraped down and any loose dirt was picked up. Since there is a yellowish-brown soil consistent throughout the trench, and no more excavation will take place in the second extension, Locus 6 was closed. Closing elevations and photos were taken. Since the light is not good for photos, they will be taken in the morning instead.

Locus 6 Closing Elevations:

NW: 121 cm BD / 26.76 m AE

NE: 127 cm BD / 26.70 m AE

SE: 134 cm BD / 23.63 m AE

SW: 139 cm BD / 26.58 m AE

Afterwards, work was relocated to locus 2 in the original trench to take down the baulk around the tree about 10 cm on both sides to see the line of rocks underneath.

Special Find #3

Possible Architectural Fragment

Baulk wall (tile bowl find)

~61 E and 63 E

and 41 S and 43 S

~26.75 m AE

At this time, locus 4 is closed as well. Closing photos will be taken in the morning. Munsell designation for locus 4 is 7.5 YR, 3/3, dark brown.

Because no work has been done in locus 4 since the end of day elevations on July 12 th , those will be the closing elevations for this locus.
