Daily Log

of tile/rock concentration east face of the trench.

Tile .66

Plaster .66

Pottery 1.25 latte

We clear down to floor level in O-P 86-88 except in P 87, much of which is under a tile and rock concentration and the area of O 86 occupied by the tree and its roots.  A gap running north-south and c. 35 cm. wide crosses the trench at the west end of O-P 87.  Another such gap seems to begin at the north edge of O 86.  The yellow layer is about 5-10 cm. high recurs to cover the floor to teh east of the north-south gap, while dark burn soil continues over and in teh gaps and in O 86.  The burn soil produces a modest amount of smal impasto sherds, bone, some burnt, and a fair amount of tile and plaster, some burnt and warped.  In southern P 89-87 the tile concentration remains intense but in 87 rocks predominate.  Photographs are taken, also a sample of yellow soil.

Tile 2

We begin laying out the season's often large tile fragments to seek joins, and we dig southward a bit following the floor, whose yellow blanket yields no material, but which is interrupted occasionally by veins of dark burn which bring with them bits of tile and plaster and small stones.  A sketch of the east face attempts to depict the now clear vertical succession of topsoil and rock.   Plaster/burn soil ending in a tile/plaster concetration resting on the barren yellow over the floor.  See sketch #1, p 3.  Casts are taken in plaster of the footprints in the unfired covertiles, a process described in ACII p 23 .  No finds recorded.

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
