The protective plastic placed over the tile concentration uncovered last year in meters I/44-45 and along the southern edge of meters H/44-45 was removed.  The tiles appeared to be in a good state of preservation, although they were very wet.  Cleaning with mestaline and brushes was then begun along the northern edge of the formation to determine whether the tiles extended further north in meters H/44-45.  A few large rocks were exposed in this area, but no tiles have yet appeared.  The soil around the rocks was light brown in color and of a clay like consistency.

Only a few, small pieces of pottery were found in the light brown soil.

Since the lower border of the trench baulk along meters I/44-45 had not been completely cleared last year, this area was now cleared down perpendicular to the trench floor.  In the process, a few rocks and worn tiles were found protruding along the baulk.  A few worn sherds of coarse pottery and two small pieces of tile were removed during clearing.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
