AM

The morning began with a pick pass in the northwestern corner of the trench in order to lower that area of the trench. The soil remains consistent with Locus 1 , containing dense organic material. The soil was then hand sorted into buckets using hand picks and trowels. During clearing a small fleck of bronze was recovered. Due to its small size and that it was recovered from topsoil it was collected as a bulk find.

Another pick pass was executed in the northernmost meter of the trench in order to lower that area of the trench. It was decided to concentrate on the northern half of the trench for the morning since that area is a bit higher than the southern half. Once the northern half has been lowered sufficiently, work will then move to the southern half of the trench.

During clearing a potential crucible fragment was recovered.

Find #1 : Potential Crucible Fragment

Elevation: 26.84 m AE

Coordinates: 103.48E/44.72S

Locus 1

Another pick pass commenced in the northernmost meter of the trench in order to lower the level of that area. Soil continues to be hand sorted into buckets using hand picks and trowels. Thus far small concentrations of terra cotta and pottery have been recovered. Four roots were removed from the central area of the northernmost meter. Another pick pass then commenced in that area in order to lower the level of the trench.

A pick pass commenced in the second meter of the trench in order to lower that area. During picking a pan tile with three \x93dimples\x94 was recovered.

Find #2 : \x93Dimpled\x94 Pan Tile

Elevation: 26.62 m AE

Coordinates: 102.36E/49.67S

Locus 1

Another pick pass commenced in the northern half of the trench in order to lower that area as well as to define the stump located in the northwestern area of the trench so that it may be removed in the near future.

During clearing a fragment of ridged pottery was recovered.

Find #3 : Ridged pottery fragment

Elevation: 26.77 m AE

Coordinates: 103.74E/45.20S

Locus 1

PM

The afternoon commenced with a pick pass in the northernmost meter in order to lower the level of that area since it is the highest part of the trench. The soil remains dense with organic material though it is beginning to thin out due to the removal of the roots earlier in the morning. Soil was then hand sorted into buckets using hand picks and trowels.

A pick pass occurred in the second meter of the trench in order to better expose the stump in that area.

Two roots along the northern wall of the trench were removed. It was decided to concentrate on exposing the stump in the northwestern area of the trench so that part of it may be removed. The eastern half of the stump was removed.

A pick pass then commenced in the third meter of the trench in order to lower that area of the trench as well as to attempt to expose the yellowish-brown clay-like soil that began to appear in the northern half of the trench. After clearing roots were clipped and closing elevations were taken.

Closing Elevations :

NW Corner: 26.90 m AE

NE Corner: 26.84 m AE

SE Corner: 26.70 m AE

SW Corner: 26.42 m AE

Daily Totals :

Terra Cotta: 2 \xbc bowls
