Daily Log

June 14, 2001

Late start due to burying pottery in the cava.  Continued cut in 51S 160-161E.  Average floor depth is now the target 135 cm b.d., though the floor isn\'t level.  Continued this until lunch.  Only terracotta, plaster, and bronze were found.

Extended cut into meter 52S 160E and 52S 161E.  Again the target depth 135 cm b.d., though this wasn\'t fully reached.  Tomorrow, the plan is to finish levelling the entire trench to the approximate depth of 135 cm b.d.

At first, the soil produced only terracotta and bronze, but quickly offered up other objects.  Bulk terracotta for the day was 1/4 cassetta and bulk pottery was 1/8 latte.  The terracotta is mostly large pan and cover tiles and small, highly eroded pieces.  The pottery is mostly impasto and includes one handle, one base/top of tondo, and several fragments of bone.  There was a considerable amount of bronze found, so two bulk bronze boxes were started, one for meters 51S 160-161E and

the other for meters 52S 160-161E.  All materials found today were from locus 13.  There were five special finds.
