Work began with the completion of baulk trim begun on Friday.

When baulk trim was complete work with pick and shovel began again.  The soil was extremely hard to pick because it had sat in the sun for several days.  It was a medium brown with fleckw on a yellow friable soil which was much more concentratred near the south baulk under the wall.  This soil contained very little material and only flecks of carbon.

baulk trim pottery= 1 liter

baulk trim tile=1/2 liter

H-I/20-22 potter= 1/4 liter

H-I/20-22 tile= 1 handful

In the south baulk a section of yellowish clayey but easily crumbled soil is visible several centimeters under the wall at its

midpoint.  Becaue non of this soil layer contains much tile or pottery, this concentration of soil will be excavated with the remainder of the soil in H-I<720-22.
