A.M.

Work continued with trowels and seive in meters EE-15, FF-14, FF-15, GG-14, HH-15 - each meter produced ivory.  Meter GG-14 was the most productive - several geometric insets were excavated.  Rectangles, triangles, and diamonds continue to be the most common shapes.  GG-14 also produced a complete bronze nail.

The present floor level ranges from 30-40cm. in depth. Meters II and EE are approximately 30cm. in depth while meter GG is almost 40cm. in depth.  The fragments and a redish soil are present throughout the trench at a depth of c. 20cm. - and this soil is present at the 30-40cm. floor level.

P.M.

Work continued this afternoon with trowels and a seive in meters EE-16, FF-16, GG-15, GG-14, and HH-15.  Excavation produced many ivory insets.  Meter GG-15 and HH-15 were the most productive - meters EE-1 and FF-16 produced very few ivories.

In meter EE-16, at a depth of c. 40cm, a large terracotta object was found.  It was broken badly with the pick.  At this point, most of the object is still in the ground.  It has been consolidated and will remain in the ground until tomorrow.  A few broken

pieces will be taken to the magazino tonight.  The object is surrounded by pithos fragments and many tile fragments.
