Locus 6 was excavated and finished today.  Approximately 1/2 can of terracotta fragments recovered and approximately 3 1/2 latte boxes of pottery sherds found along with some fragments of bone.

Closing depths of locus 6:

NE corner:  39 cm above datum point

NW corner:  49 cm.

SW corner:  49 cm.

SE corner:  approximately 39 cm.

The area immediately under locus 5 was made locus 7 because a higher concentration of terracotta fragments appeared to be present here than in locus 5.

Closing depths of locus 5 = opening depths of locus 7:

NE corner:  61 cm. above datum point

NW corner:  67 cm.

SW corner:  68 cm.

SE corner:  60 cm.

Munsell for locus 7:  Hue 7.5 YR 5/4 brown

Locus 7 was excavated and finished.  Approximately 1/4 can of terracotta fragments recovered and approximately 3 latte boxes of pottery sherds found.  Some bone fragments were found of which at least one has cut marks.

Munsell for locus 8:  Hue 2.5 Y 4/4 olive brown

Munsell for locus 9:  Hue 2.5 Y 4/4 olive brown

Photographs were taken of loci 8 and 9.

Locus 9 was excavated first.  Approximately 1/5 can of terracotta fragments recovered and approximately

2 latte boxes of pottery sherds found along with some bone fragments.  The soil of locus 9 is turning mottled with olive, orange, grey, and black specks appearing.  One special find was made in this locus, fragments of a vessel having a full profile.  The spot where the fragments were found contained small pieces of carbon.

Excavation was also carried out in locus 8.  Approximatley 1/4 can of terracotta fragments recovered along with a large dolium rim fragment and several fragments of large terracotta bricks (smallest finished sides = 14 cm.).  Approximately 3 latte boxes of pottery sherds found.  Two special finds were made, fragments of two vessels having full profiles.
