Daily Log

Continued the 10cm cut through locus 11 started on Friday using trowels.  The soil contains a lot of carbon and disintegrated plasters.  Also there are numerous rocks (5-10cm in size) randomly dispersed within the soil.  Several tile pieces (10cm) and a pithos rim fragment were found concentrated in meter N14 W9 together with few rocks.  A full latte box of bone and pottery was excavated this morning, as well as 25 tile fragments and 15 plaster pieces.

Also a strange pottery fragment with one/possibly 2 finished edges was found.

It was decided to use picks in excavating locus 11 in order to expedite the process.  1/2 of latte box of pottery and bone, 7 tile fragments and 9 pieces of plaster were found.  Special finds included 2 pieces of worked stone, spindle whorls, a small iron slag, piece of plaster with one finished surface and 3 large fragmentary vessel parts (2 rims).

Work also resumed in CA42.  More stones in the well wall were exposed by cutting back into galestra on both sides of the wall.
