Summary of the Cuts

As explained last year in MT VII , it is not really possible to summarize the cuts as was done in MT IV 1981 .  This is because the "terracotta/mortar" floor was encountered at various depths and because the area excavated is on a hill which slopes down to the south.

Note, however, that all excavation this year in T-26, as with last year in T-26, was above the "floor."  Detailed descriptions of the soil is given in the daily summaries of this book.  These should be consulted if depth by depth analysis is required.

Stratigraphy, trench sections

Unfortunately, due to the lack of time, sections of T-26 1983 were not drawn this year.  Therefore, a stratigraphy summary is not included.  A few notes are given however:

  1. Meters gamma/59-71 of T-26 1983 are only ~20 cm deep and teh soil here boave what is thought to be "floor" or "floor" level is mainly topsoil, dark brown and rooty.
  2. Generally, just above the "floor," the soil contained more plaster and plaster-like material with carbon, and this soil was usually light and yellow-orange in color.  The greatest concentrations of tile were just above the "floor."

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
