Continued excavating cut 2 moving north and uphill - cut is 25-40 cm deep in grid T/62.  Vast number of roots has increased difficutly of excavating this cut.  There is a fair amount of tile found at this level.  [Note: preponderance of tile and pottery to east especially in southern grids - in meters W/64-63 large amounts of tile and plaster at this level - soil reddish.]  The pottery found at this level includes both coarse and fineware (including bucchero) and impasto.  Some of it is burned.  There is also a fair amount of pithoi fragments found at this level - bases, rims and body fragments as in the adjacent trench.  Also some amphora fragments have been observed - indicating a possible storage area.  There is also a tiny bit of bronze slag.  Glassy slag is also present.

Began cut 3 going 35-40 cm below trench floor.  Began cut to south in grid W/64 and immediately 855 cm) turned up antifix fragments.  Soil is very loose, reddish in color and includes much tile and plaster throughout.
