Swept floor in preparation for the photo that was taken. Then started by making a pickpass through about 1/3 of the trench starting at 52S, still shovelling and sifting in the wheelbarrow. This was our first pass into Locus 2 .
52S/182E = 27.66 m.
52S/180E = 27.64 m.
49S/182E = 27.68 m.
49S/180E = 27.72 m.
The soil in Locus 2 is a lighter color, brownish gray and has a clumpier consistency. There is also a higher concentration of pottery sherds and worn tile and plaster.
Then completed the pass to 49S. Started another pass in which we found an orangeware handle. In the next portion of the pass we found 3 pieces of a ceramic cooking vessel.
Completed pick pass started in the A.M. and also completed another full pass of the trench, sorting in wheelbarrow. Then trimmed the roots with clippers
and cut back more of the stumps with baulk hammers. The goals for tomorrow are to trim the baulk walls and complete 2-3 passes of the trench, hoping to bring it down about 20 cm.
52S/182E = 27.62
52S/180E = 27.64
49S/182E = 27.64
49S/180E = 27.67
