T-23 1980 Extension Ivory

Ivory finds made up a large portion of the material from T-23 1980 Extension.  These ivories consisted of carved figure fragments and half cylinder inlays with lateral grooves, though the majority of the ivory is in the form of flat inlays, sometimes with incised patterns.  A series of pieces were found which preserve portions of incised animals.  An overall summary of these pieces may be obtained by scanning this year's finds and catalogued ivory pieces.

It is significant to note that the ivory pieces were found in concentrated areas, mainly from GG and FF/9.  The remainder of the trench was relatively devoid of ivory.  Most of the ivory from GG-FF/9 was from two levels: 50 cm and 70 cm, and was intermixed with tile, stone, and carbonized wood fragments.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
