29 July 2015

AM

The workday commenced in Locus 2 using hand picks and trowels to lower the level of the trench to the same elevation as the floor surface found in T-66 ( KD II ). The soil in the locus is still clay-like, but is more light-brown than yellowish-brown in color. However, that is most likely due to sunlight drying out the soil since little work has taken place in that area recently. Additionally, the soil is also quite friable because of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. The soil was hand sorted into buckets.

Small concentrations of pottery have been recovered from the locus. Additionally, small fist sized rocks are scattered throughout the locus north of the rock feature.

The soil in the locus continues to be clay-like, and soft in texture, and retains moisture as well. Apart from the few pottery fragments recovered earlier very little material has been pulled up.

Small concentrations of pottery have been recovered from the area north of the rock feature, nestled against it. However, very little

material continues to be found further north of the rock feature.

The remainder of the loose soil was cleared and roots were clipped until lunch.

PM

After lunch it was decided to move work to Locus 5 and level it to bring it down to the level of the northern end of T-76. Hand picks and trowels were used and dirt was hand sorted into buckets. Leveling began concentrating of the southern edge of Locus 5 .
