Continued excavation in Locus 2 , beginning with a pick pass initiated in the northern meter moving southward. Soil sorted into buckets and cleaned from the trench. Small stones 5-10cm in length and roots included in the matrix. Worn fragment of iron slag found as well as bone.

Locus 2

Three buckets sieved, no artifacts recovered. In cleaning of the southern meter several rocks are emerging together amidst a patch of light brown-yellowish soil. A second pick pass begun in the northern meter moving toward the south where hand picks will be used in the area around the rock feature. During sorting and cleaning

a fragment of bronze recovered.

Locus 2

Two buckets sieved, no artifacts recovered. During picking and cleaning in the southern meter, more of the light brown-yellowish soil uncovered. Third pick pass begun in the northern meter. Soil remains consistent with Locus 2 , no signs of the light brown-yellowish soil have appeared. Areas around the tree stumps along the northern baulk wall cleaned with hand picks and portions of roots removed. One bucket sieved, no artifacts recovered. Large portion of the stump from the northeast corner removed. The soil beneath it removed to bring the area down to the level of the rest of the trench. While cleaning, a fragment of ridged pottery recovered.

Bucket sieved and three worn fragments of pottery 2-5cm in length recovered. No work in the PM (Palio).
