Daily Log 17/7/14

17/7/14 AM

A pick pass was done in the 2x1 extension between T-57 and 58. The roots were defined here. Patches of a yellow-brown soil were coming up here. The soil was sorted and a bronze disk was found (SF#1). Another pick pass was done in the southern most meter. Tile and pottery are being recovered although in less quantity than before. Another pick pass was done in the next meter north (35-36S). There appear to be more rocks in this pick pass. Soil was sorted and dumped. The next meter north was picked. Roots were clipped and soil was sorted. The final northern meter of the extension was picked. In this final pass has much more yellow granular soil. The northern wall was trimmed back.

Special Find #1 Bronze Disc Locus 6 29.30 mAE 94.97E, 35.48S

The 2x1 meter extension was picked again. The roots were cut out with an axe. The soil was sorted and dumped.

The baulk wall between the original trench and the extension was leveled. The eastern baulk wall was trimmed. The southern most meter of the extension was picked and soil was removed. The amount of tile and pottery is becoming less through these passes. Several rocks from the 35-36 S meter were defined but left in place.

The afternoon was focused on leveling the extension with a focus on the south-western portion intertwined with roots. The rock line seems to extend into this portion and towards the east. The wall between T-57 and 58 was leveled. The baulk walls of the extension were cleaned up. We are coming on a granular, lighter soil that crumbles well. Roots were clipped. At the end of the day locus 6 was closed and locus 7 opened.
