The area was cleared for excavation and points were laid for elevations.

Datum set at 28.29m absolute elevation, but adjusted to 28.00m absolute elevation. Base lines set at 57S and 180E.

Opening Elevations:

57S/178E = 13cm below datum = 27.87m (absolute elevation)

55S/178E = 6cm below datum = 27.94m (absolute elevation)

55S/177E = 13cm below datum = 27.87m (absolute elevation)

53S/177E = 3cm below datum = 27.97m (absolute elevation)

57S/ 175E=


Locus 1 was declared. Soil contained excessive amounts of roots and dark, organic rich matter. The southern portion of the trench contained significantly more small stones than the north. Pick passes were conducted from 55S to 57S and 1/2 a bowl of terracotta was recovered, all severely damaged from tree roots and exposure. Approximately 1/4 box of pottery and 1 bone was extracted.
