Daily Log

July 15, 1972

Work continued in Trench 19, grids J-M/32-33.  Ezo cleared the area to the east of the N-S foundation down to a hard yellowish-brown level - possibly a pavement.  The soil above this pavement is reddish with much carbon and contains tile fragments, coarse pottery sherds, and small stones - all in very small quantities.

  • 1 cassetti of tiles discarded
  • 1/2 cassette of pottery from red stratum, T-19 K-M/32-33

Supplemental finds recovered from bulk bone bags found in the magazzino.  Analysis by Sarah Kansa in 2012.

Meanwhile, three men cleared the topsoil from the adjacent area to the west, leaving a N-S dike at the 31st meter line.  The area cleared is Grids J-M/28-30, and lies north of Trench 18, the area dug by Eva Rystedt in 1971 ( see ER I, p. 251-257 ).  This area will be designated as the North Extension of T-18.  The area is 3 m by 4 m.

  • 1 cassetti of tiles discarded from topsoil, T-18 J-M/28-30

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
