AM

The rock packing was defined, the bedrock stones in the northern part of locus 16 were cleaned and the yellow soil was exposed. The soil in the south western corner, where we picked yesterday, was scraped and the bedrock was defined and the edge of the rock packing was cleaned. This corner is still where the most material is coming from. The stump in the southeastern part of locus 16 was defined and the soil lowered. The floor was scraped. The area near the stump was taken down another 10 cm with trowels. When leveling the southwestern corner of the trench, a piece of burned bone was recovered (SF #1).

Trowels and handaxes were used to level and define the roots in the southeastern corner of

the trench. Trowels and hand picks were used to level the southwestern corner of the trench. The linear rock packing was further defined. The floor of the western section of locus 16 between the rock packing and bedrock was scraped and leveled. The soil appears to be becoming more clay-like. Pottery, tile and bone are found primarily in this area, with a few pieces being found in the roots. Nothing is found in the middle of the rock packing. We will be closing locus 16 because the rock packing has been better defined and we are coming upon a clay-like soil. Closing elevations will be taken today but we will wait for better lighting to take closing photographs and drawings.
