Locus 1 declared across the whole trench. A terracotta dump was established 3m south of the trench, and a rock pile 1m west. The northern half of the trench was picked. The soil contained a large amount of humus and organic material. Some small (> 5cm) and medium (ca. 10-15cm) rocks were present. Also present in this pick pass
were a shot-gun shell and three pieces of terracotta.
The southern half of the trench was picked. A continuation of humus and some organic material is evident throughout. Small concentrations of hazelnut/walnuts were found beside the tree on the western side of the trench. The soil contained less organic material and stone here. A few pieces of terracotta were recovered. A circular cavity was discovered ca. 1.5m from the north line and .20 m from the western line. Initial evidence from more nut shells suggests this may be an animal nest.
