AM

The rain overnight has allowed for a clearer view of the two soils present in the trench. In the southeaster corner the blue-gray soil is clearly present, however in the southwestern corner some of the mottled soil is still present. Therefore a pick pass was done in the western third of the trench. Soil was shoveled into buckets and sorted into the wheelbarrow. Terracotta and pottery were found. Another pick pass was done in the western third of the trench. The soil in the southern part of this pass seems more gray-blue than in the northern part. Terracotta and pottery were found, mostly from the northern part. While sorting an unusual terracotta fragment was recovered (SF #1).

A third pick pass was done in the western third of the trench, while sorting in the wheelbarrow, a possible statue fragment was recovered (SF #2). Now the blue-gray soil is coming up in the southern part, the mottled olive soil still remains in the north. A pick pass was started across the northern half of the trench, where the olive soil remains. While sorting a possible ridge pole tile was found (SF #3), also a frieze plaque fragment (SF #4) and possible statue fragment (SF #5). Another pick pass was done over the northern half of the trench. While sorting a piece of cavetto (SF #6) and a vitrified pan tile (SF #7) was found. Another pick pass was done in the northern half of the trench. Soil was shoveled into buckets and sorted at the wheelbarrow. While sorting a piece of statue fragment was found (SF #8). The soil after several pick passes remains the olive mottled soil of locus 2 . Work was called due to rain.
