Daily Log

July 22, 2003

Continued excavating into locus 6, clearing and sifting with trowels.  We began in the east end of the trench to attempt to bring the trench floor to an even plane before the end of the season.  There is a lot of plaster in locus 6 soil, which was not present at all in upper layers.  Very much terracotta is also emerging from locus 6, and far more pottery than before.  Three special finds emerged in the morning.

  • Find #1
  • E169.20/S59.70
  • 27.30 abs.elev.

Continued the afternoon the same as the morning; pick passes and clearing and sifting in locus 6. We ended the day with trimming baulk walls and cleaning the trench floor.
