Daily Log

July 30, 1976

Work continued on cut 3, red stratum.  In grids KL 42-43 a heavy concentration of both coarse and fine pottery was encountered.  The area was cleaned and photographed.  The pottery is crushed among pan and cover tiles.

Non-joining fragments belonging to 19760177 have been stored in the representative pottery box labeled: Box 9 T 19, Selective Coarse Ware, GW Bk. IV.

Beacause of insufficient time it was only possible to lift a small part of this pottery deposit.  The remaining pots were covered wiht rubber sheating and covered with earth-

Excavation was also continued on the "hearth" in the middle room (plan p. 150) , cleaning down the carbon and trying to define its complete area.  Now more than ever, I am convinced that it is a hearth or cooking pit, ringed by small stones which overlay bits of tile and pottery.
