Work continued on leveling the trench and removing the Locus 2 soil with hand picks and trowels.  The baulks are also being trimmed; any finds from the baulks will be counted separately.  Stumps were removed.

 

PM

The trench was prepared for opening Locus 3.  Locus 3 consists of a yellowish brown soil extending across the full trench.  There are some large stones in the NW corner of the locus, and a piece of terra cotta protruding up about one meter north from the center of the southern baulk.  Some roots and one stump remain.

Opening photos were taken and Locus 3 was opened.  Opening elevations were taken.

SW: 26.77 mAE

 

A pick pass was begun in the W end of the trench.  A diagnostic bone fragment was found.

The first five buckets of Locus 3 soil were set aside for flotation testing.  Closing elevations were taken.
