25/7/14 AM The trench was bailed and the floor of locus 8 scraped. Yesterday we noticed a soil change in the locus of an increase in flakey soil. While the change is muddied it is apparent once we scraped and leveled the trench. While cleaning the ridge between locus 8 and locus 5 a piece of vitrified terracotta (#1). The floor was cleaned and opening photos, elevations, and sketches were taken. Locus 12 was declared over the whole of locus 8.

A pick pass was done in the northern half meter in locus 12 . Soil was sorted nd dumped. While cleaning a diagnostic rim (SF #2) was found. Some pottery and one was found,
Almost no tile is being recovered. A ridged piece of rim (SF #3) was found.

Another pick pass was done in the middle half meter. The soil is becoming flakier and drier as we continue to pick. The last 1/2 meter of the locus was picked. The baulk was pulled in and while cleaning this soil a sheep's tooth was found (SF #4).

PM After the last half of the southern part of locus 12 was picked a fragment of ridged pottery was found after picking up the soil (SF #5).

Decayed tile is scattered through the soil. The soil is becoming more flakey and there are specks of carbon. A fragment of ridged buccheroid was found near the south-east corner of the locus (SF #6).

A piece of partially vitrified terracotta was found in the southern meter of the locus (SF #7).

While cleaning up soil in the south east portion of the locus a diagnostic rim with a partial body fragment was also recovered (SF #8).

Soon afterwards, near the center of the locus, a scapula fragment was uncovered (SF #9).

As dirt was cleaned up in the middle of the pick pass, a bone possibly a leg bone was found SF #10. The wall between locus 12 and the sound is
being knocked down.

Locus 12 continues to be scraped with trowels until in becomes level. The soil becomes increasingly flakey and crumbly
