July 3, 1972

Three workmen continued to clear the area in T-19 G-I/49-47 down to approx. 50 cm below topsoil.  This area produced rocks in G/49, possibly a wall.  The soil is yellowish brown and contains tile fragments, possible statue fragments, a cassette of coarse pottery, and one strawberry box of bucchero.  A dike was left at the 47 meter line.

  • 2 cassetti of tiles discarded
  • 1/4 cassette of bones
  • 1 cassette of pottery
  • Finds included 2 pieces of slag

In the afternoon, three men began to excavate in T-19 E-F/51-52, the area to the east of the wall, clearing down to approximately 50 cm below topsoil.  The brownish gray soil here contains tile fragments, a small amount of pottery and bones.
