A.M.

Trimmed eastern baulk, removing remaining topsoil matting around tree stump at east end.

Began a second cut at the western end of the trench continuing it through meters E79, S18-20. The soil remained consistent with that from the cut above and thus retains the Locus 1 designation.

The Locus 1 soil was also Munselled 2.5Y 5/3.

All tile and ceramic quantities will be recorded in the afternoon.

P.M.

This morning s cut was continued through meters E83, S18-20. The soil remained consistent, although roots were more frequent dur to the greater number of tree stumps in the eastern portion of the trench. Two small stumps were removed.

63 fragments of heavily worn terracotta were recovered with 3 small worn fragments of ceramic.

Elevations were recorded for the perimeter of the trench using the datum.
