Made 1 complete pick pass of trench. The soil remained dark brown topsoil still containing root rot, roots and small to medium stones. There were much fewer pieces of terracotta and plaster removed and those found were small to medium and well-worn. This would seem to indicate that the tile dump, previously identified, has now been removed. The soil maintains the designation of Locus 1 . This morning's tallies of terracotta and pottery will be included in this afternoon's entry. The only other find of the morning was a large animal tooth, most likely that of a sheep.
Completed a pick pass through half of the trench (E182-180/S52-50.5). Levelled picked area and area surrounding the two stumps. Began trimming the north and east baulks but ran out of time. Total terracotta removed today was 1 1/2 cassettas. 21 pieces of pottery were also unearthed including 1 impasto handle fragment, 2 pieces of impasto rim, 1 orangeware base fragment, and 1 bucchero rim sherd.
