Pottery Summary

Pottery Summary

During the 2007 season, 1329 sherds of pottery were recovered from SF-4. In all loci, impasto sherds significantly outnumbered other types, accounting for 66% of the pottery recovered from the entire trench. The second most common fabric was coareware, and the third fine impasto. There were only a few sherds of bucchero found.

Locus 17 yielded the highest amount of pottery, specifically 289 sherds or 22% of the pottery from the entire trench. 274 sherds were found in Locus 16, but since this locus represented several strata of soil, it should not be included in an analysis of loci which yielded high amounts of pottery. Locus 14, which represented the rock feature running laterally east to west through the center of the trench, also produced a significant amount of pottery, specifically 155 sherds or 12% of the total.

A breakdown of pottery by type and locus follows below.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
