Daily Log

July 16, 1969

The second layer was taken off.  Contours of stones in line with the two walls seemed to appear.  1 box of tiles was dumped.  Two pieces of cornice were found.

The large rectangular block excavated the previous day was removed from its position, and the two halves joined together.  It measured 0.90 x 0.66 x 0.25 metres.  The area directly underneath its resting place was excavated to a depth of 0.35 metres, at which depth galestra was hit.  A few fragments of broken tiles and pottery were found in the earth removed, but noticeably absent were the large numbers of rocks whic had been packed so closely around the large block when it was found.

Excavation of the extension of T8 (12-27) was completed, and a new extension 9.5 metres to the east was measured off, (28-37).  Topsoil and dirt from the dump were removed from this area.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
