A 2x4 meter trench was set up in the southern portion of R14 (see plan page 3), the northwestern most coordinate being E140, S28.

A shallow pick cut was taken throughout the trench within the confines of the foundations. The soil was very compacted and grayish-green in color, with inclustions of decayed terracotta/plaster and carbon. Locus 1. Began sleeping and trowling down over the entire area. Pottery and tile quantities will be recorded in the afternoon.

Cleared brush in the area of meters E140-141, S19-22 in preperation for another 2x4 meter trench.

Continued troweling in meters E140-143, S28-29, leveling and straightening the trench. The initial cut throughout the trench produced 1/3 of a latte bx of pottery and bone and 6-8 fragments of tile. An area of dark soil with carbon and plaster inclusions, Locus 2, was encountered in meters E140-141, S28-29; E142, S29; E143, S29. On the eastern side of the trench a number of flatish stones were uncovered. They were beneath the dark soil with carbon and plaster. 10 sherds of pottery and 1 piece of bone were recovered.
