Daily Log 3 July 2009

Work continued in Locus 1 though a soil change was noted in parts. Dark brown with organic material was scraped from trench and approximately 1 bowl of terracotta and 1 box of pottery were recovered. Locus 2 was declared and photos taken.

Opening elevations:

57S/178E = 27.66m (absolute elevation)

55S/178E = 27.67m (absolute elevation)

55S/178E = 27.74m (absolute elevation)

53S/177E= 27.71m (absolute elevation)

Locus 2 soil is olive/yellow with significant amounts of decayed rock and sandier than Locus 1. Very little terracotta or pottery appear. Soil sample taken.

Continued picking through Locus 2. Southern portion of the trench remained mostly sterile and definitively Locus 2 soil. The northern half of the trench began to change into what will be declared Locus 3, so work in that section halted temporarily. An average closing elevation was taken at 47cm below datum (27.53m absolute elevation).

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
