Topsoil was taken off from the new cut.  9 boxes of tiles were dumped.  The earlier part of the rench had now been taken down to a level of 50 cm. at the N edge, and ca 25 at the S.

T6E (1)

The last part of the third layer in the remaining cut was taken down.  1 box of tiles was dumped.  Some fragments of cover tiles and ridgepole tiles appeared in a small section.

Work was stopped because of heavy rain.

T6E (2)

Excavation was begun in the area of F,G,&H, 8,9,&10 around a square group of stones.  ( ).  The first objective was simply to clear the stones to reveal their outline.  In the process a piece of horserace frieze was found at G9.  in the afternoon work was stopped because of heavy rain.
