Tile: 1/2; Pottery: 1/2

Work continued first by continuing the trench northward ~15 cm in order to open the trench up when a new, deeper cut was made.  Topsoil and stratigraphy remained the same as before.  A new cut was begun to the east and west ends dropping the trench floor level ~20 cm in an effort to determine whether the stony layer was a deep, continuous one, possibly indicating a moat or similar structure.  The stony layer was very difficult to pick through.  There was almost no terracotta, plaster, or pottery found in this layer.

At about 40-50 cm (i.e. just above the trench floor level) this rock layer faded out.  The soil apparently continued to be the same greyish-brown claylike soil.  There seemed to be more terracotta and pottery in this layer but not in any great concentration.  Such pieces were very worn and small on the average and of fairly fine ware.  No pithos was found.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
