Daily Log

Saturday, 12 July, morning

We complete the cut begun yesterday morning in L 86-88 to a depth of ca. 65 cm ( measured at 86/87).  In O-P 89 we remove much of teh remaining rock/tile concentration reaching a depth of 60 cm. in much of the area (measured at O/P).  L 86-88 yields much plaster (1.5 cassette) and a fair amount of tile (1 cassetta) as well as nearly a full berry box of pottery and some large and small pieces of bone.  Most striking is the amount of ivory and worked bone (Nos. 1, 2, 5-11, 13).  Also several large and small bronze flakes.  O-P 89 yields about 5-6 cassette of tile, with many large fragments (cf. Nos. 14-17) and one akroterial fragment No. 12 under No. 15, found face down a large patch of black burn soil with a large bit of burned plaster.  Here we find, in addition, .5 box of plaster and 2 latte boxes of pottery.
