AM: worked in magazzino

G-I east baulk section drawn

G-I 37-38 plaster concentration section drawn

PM: work in P/Q 34 continued in order to define the n/s running line of stones. Closer to the baulk the pottery was a little more rounded and eroded.

In P/Q 35-36 baulk trim was carried out before excavating between the E/W line of stones and the baulk.

Also, work with a trowel continued in P/Q 38 to define the line of stones exposed by picking yesterday.

P/Q 34 exposed a dark layer which was hard packed and had chunks of tile. The western side of of P/Q 34 still remains to be excavated.

Partially excavated are two stacked tile fragments. The lower fragment is from a pan tile and sits at an angle. It was covered by soil and a cover tile fragment. What is interesting about these stacked tiles is two small spots on the pan tile which are bright orange from where the cover tile sat on it. This area remains to be excavated more. One quarter of a litre latte carton of pottery was recovered, along with one bronze flake and a few handfuls of tile. Also, one piece of reed impressed plaster noted and thrown out.

In P/Q 35-36 work between the E/W line of stones and the baulk was completed. It revealed a darker brown clayey soil. Only a handful of pottery was recovered and a few tile fragments, which

included a piece of covertile.

Finally, work in P/Q 38-40 continues. A N/S running line of stones was better defined, and while working eastward, several large pieces of embedded tile were revealed, and some on the very surface were removed. Beyond that, little tile was recovered, and only a handful of pottery.
